Live On Air Food Drive

Shepparton Foodshare is partnering with the local radio station, Triple M and Hit Goulburn Valley to conduct a ‘live on air’ food drive seeking donations of food staples to help address shortages in food supply for local people that need it most.
On Thursday, November 19 from 6am to 12 noon, Triple M and Hit radio announcers will take their show outside and broadcast on the front lawn of the radio station encouraging the community and passersby to get involved and drop by with their donation of shelf stable food to support local people on their commute.
And what better time to do this than now as we head into the festive season when those already doing it tough need an extra hand up.
Right now, Shepparton Foodshare really needs pasta, rice, pasta sauce, tinned soup, tinned tuna, 1kg flour, 1kg sugar, dry chickpeas, lentils and legumes, gluten free items and halal items. Or why not consider a little festive treat to spread some joy and cheer!
When doing your regular shop buy a little extra if you can to take down to the station at 625 Wyndham Street, Shepparton during the live broadcast.
Or, if you are workplace wanting to help, why not get your team involved and start taking up a collection of these food staple items ready to donate.
Shepparton Foodshare Executive Officer, Dee Healey said, “contributing to a food drive is a great way to support Shepparton Foodshare and in turn others within your own community. The radio station has made it easy to donate during your morning commute. Some items of food that we need most at the moment can be purchased for around $2.”
Shepparton Foodshare is grateful for the ongoing support of many local food manufactures and growers via regular food donations however, there are some staples that are really difficult to obtain or may be quite specific to cultural or dietary needs so food drives help to meet the demand for those products.
Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) have been generous supporters of Shepparton Foodshare over the years supporting fundraising campaigns, helping to increase awareness regarding food insecurity and by supporting volunteer and food appeals such as this.
Demand for Shepparton Foodshare’s vital service is growing at an alarming rate, with food distribution increasing by 46% last financial year and a further 57% increase recorded financial year to date.
In total, Shepparton Foodshare has distributed the equivalent of 11.8 million meals, to people in need.
Shepparton Foodshare’s warehouse and distribution centre provides a central hub for those that want to donate and for the 120 registered agencies, including schools, to collect food and distribute if for free to the people they support.
