You Smashed it - Enough rice for 54,000 meals!
Our aim for the annual Great Rice Drive was to collect enough rice to contribute to 25,000 meals.
Taking into account direct rice donations and tax-deductible cash donations that allow us to purchase rice, you have helped provide enough rice for around 54,000 meals.
What an incredible result!
Demand for our service is increasing every month however we are hoping that these incredible rice donations will last us until Christmas this year.
Thank you to all the local businesses and groups that have provided valuable rice donation points and thank you to each and every one of you that has donated rice or made a tax-deductible donation to purchase rice.
Rice is an important food staple which is both nutritious and culturally appropriate, however it is an item that is difficult for us to source. We don't have a regular rice donor and we don't regularly receive it in our food rescues that why we introduced the annual Great Rice Drive.
The humble one kilogram bag of rice can contribute to around eight meals. For less than $2, the cost of a one kilogram bag of rice, you can make a difference. It's a great opportunity to do something nice, and donate rice!
