Demand For Food Is Rising

We are currently experiencing extremely high demand for our food. We know that registered agencies are needing more food than ever before for the people they support and we are also receiving applications from new agencies weekly.

Year to date we have distributed 40% more food than the same time last year, an alarming increase!

Please be assured that we are doing what we can to keep up with this increasing demand.

Shepparton Foodshare is a not-for-profit service that relies on generous donations and food rescues to supply food for free to local people experiencing food insecurity. To meet our community’s needs we are continually seeking additional food donors.

As our food is donated, we do not operate like a supermarket where it is known what will be on the shelves from week to week to fill orders therefore food is supplied by grouping it into shelf stable, fresh produce, frozen and essentials such as personal hygiene and cleaning products.

Every effort is made to meet the needs identified in your orders however this is not always possible. With demand so high you may receive less in your order; we do this so that everyone placing an order receives something, rather than some missing out.

When accepting and distributing food Shepparton Foodshare adheres to Australian Food Safety Standards. Under these standards there are two main types of expiry dates – Used By or Best Before Dates.  Some food items you receive may be close to or past their best before date.

In some cases, shelf life can be extended by freezing a product before its Use By Date. Once thawed, it should be used immediately.

Most packaged foods have a Best Before Date, which indicates the product’s quality up to that date. These products can be safely consumed after their Best Before Date for days to months after this date. To view the guide that we adhere to please click here.

We thank you for your understanding, please be assured that we will continue to strive for our vision - A region where everyone has dignified access to the food and the essentials they need to live well, belong, and thrive.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we operate —
the Yorta Yorta people
, and we pay our deep respects to their Elders past and present.

We also extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

.

This is Yorta Yorta Country — a place of deep cultural significance and belonging, where the rivers meet, and where knowledge, stories, and food have been passed down for countless generations.

May we walk together with respect, learn from the wisdom of Country, and continue to support one another with the same generosity and spirit that has always lived on this land.
